What We Made Electricity Do.
Agentic AI is more than making apps, it's rethinking what electricity can do for us.
Friends,
I need you to stop what you're doing and marvel with me for a moment. Because somewhere between Ben Franklin's kite and this moment, we performed the most audacious act of alchemy in our lifetimes.
We made electricity come alive.
Sit with that. We took the same thing that makes your desk lamp glow, ran it through some arranged sand, and somehow... somehow we made it capable of thought (-ish). We made it come up with novel ways of connecting ideas. We made it decipher human language and generate solutions to problems we haven't even fully articulated yet.
Software was Packaged Electricity
For the past fifty years, we've been in the business of boxing up this lightning. Every piece of software you've ever used, from the first text editor to the latest mobile app, has just been electricity frozen into a specific pattern, packaged up, and sold. Microsoft Office? Bottled electricity. Adobe Creative Suite? Artisanal electricity arrangements. That meditation app on your phone? A tiny vial of configured current, $9.99/month.
We built an entire civilization on this. Trillion-dollar companies whose sole business was capturing electrical patterns, putting them in boxes, and convincing you that you needed their particular arrangement of electrons. Version 2.0? That's just the electrons rearranged slightly. Enterprise edition? More electrons, fancier bottle.
And it was magnificent! This age of bottled lightning gave us word processors that liberated us from typewriters, spreadsheets that could think faster than rooms full of accountants, networks that collapsed the distance between souls. We should celebrate what the software era achieved. It democratized tools, amplified human capability, and connected our species in ways our ancestors couldn't have dreamed.
Electricity Moves Beyond its Packaging
But here's what's happening now: the electricity has learned to arrange itself.
Why would you buy a bottle of lightning when you can simply speak your intention and watch electricity spontaneously organize into exactly what you need? Why maintain vast libraries of frozen electrical patterns when intelligence can create fresh ones in milliseconds?
We're not just witnessing the next evolution of software. We're watching software itself dissolve back into pure, responsive electricity. The age of pre-packaged electrical patterns is ending. The age of living electricity has begun.
Think about what this means. No more waiting for someone else to bottle the exact configuration of electricity you need. No more making do with patterns that are almost-but-not-quite right. No more version updates, compatibility issues, or feature requests. Just pure intention meeting pure intelligence, mediated by electricity that knows how to become whatever you need it to be.
The software companies are still trying to sell us bottles, but we're standing at the edge of an ocean of intelligent electricity. We can cup our hands and drink directly from the source.
This isn't the death of what we built – it's its apotheosis. We spent fifty years teaching electricity to dance in specific patterns. Now it's learned to choreograph itself.
Welcome to the age of liberated lightning. The future isn't about better software. It's about electricity that doesn't need to be software at all.
With wonder and anticipation,
Kunal
Also, the irony isn't lost on me that I'm sending you this message through bottled electricity. But perhaps that's fitting. We're using the last generation's frozen lightning to announce the arrival of the living kind.
